Mary Ellen Glynn (Salem) Governor Ted Kulongoski today applauded Hynix
Semiconductor Manufacturing America (“HSMA”), the U.S. subsidiary of Hynix
Semiconductor Inc. of Korea, for its $100 million upgrade in the companies
Eugene facility. “Hynix
America’s decision to make these upgrades while keeping their facility open
during the changes is a win-win for everyone,” Governor Kulongoski said.
“This creates more jobs, keeps the current workforce going and brings much
needed economic stimulus to Oregon.” Governor Kulongoski,
along with Economic and Community Development Commission Chair Jack Isselmann,
met with Hynix America CEO D.W. Baik in early March and discussed the proposed investment as well as Hynix
America’s role as a strong community partner. “After meeting
with Mr. Baik, I was amazed at the commitment that Hynix America has for the
Eugene area and for the entire state,” Governor Kulongoski said. Hynix has invested over $1.6 billion to date in the Eugene,
Oregon facility, which manufactures 256 SDRAM and DDR.
These semiconductors are used in a wide variety of products.
HSMA employs over 850 individuals at the Eugene facility, along with 170
contract workers. HSMA is one of
the top private employers in Oregon. Unlike previous upgrades to the Eugene, Oregon facility,
production will continue at the site and will not affect current employees and
operations. According the company,
the result of the upgrade to “PrimeChip” technology will result in a
production increase of more than 50%. HSMA
expects the new product will primarily serve U.S. customers for use in high end
applications specially in the server market. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
